What separates one person from another? It’s not necessarily the background, the upbringing, or the starting status in life. It is how that person reacts to what life throws at him or her.
There are some things in life that you just can’t control. Both unfortunate and fortunate things happen to everyone in life.
You usually can react in one of two ways:
- in a positive supportive way, or
- in a destructive negative way.
We all have different chances, talents, opportunities, and situations in life. There is absolutely no guarantee that anyone in life will succeed by following any single formula or principle. For all you know, you might die tomorrow, you might be robbed, get mortally ill, or you might have a huge unexpected windfall. Things happen. But there is a way to increase the cadence of good things happening, and increase your chances of holding onto and taking advantage of good things when they come available. You must maintain faith, a good attitude, and develop yourself personally. The more you do, the more you increase your chances of obtaining a good life. This quote from Epictetus captures the concept well.
“It is our attitude toward events, not events themselves, which we can control. Nothing is by its own nature calamitous – even death is terrible only if we fear it.”~Epictetus
