Do You Need A Website?
Before anything, first you must ask if your really need one.Β Some don’t.
Just because others are doing it doesn’t mean that it is the best thing for you.Β You may not need a website, and it may ultimately prove to be a distraction for you rather than a help.Β Ask yourself the following questions to determine building a website is right for you:
- Do you have a lot of people you need to communicate with?
- Do you have a lot of content/information you continually share with people?
If you answered, “Yes,” to these questions, then a website will help you.Β It is not technically required, and you CAN be successful without it, but it CAN assist you.
How A Website Can Help You?
So, how can a website help you?Β I’m glad you asked because I prepared these bullet points to show you how a website helps me and how it can help you.
Be Sharing
You can publish anything youΒ create with theΒ rest of the world, whether it beΒ an idea, aΒ video,Β aΒ document,Β pictures,Β news,Β recipes.Β OnceΒ you put it there it will be availableΒ for anyone.Β Instantly.
ForΒ example, youΒ haveΒ aΒ chart you wantΒ yourΒ friends and followers to have.Β Make a post or page and share it withΒ everyone.
This isΒ great forΒ documents (likeΒ recipes) that youΒ constantly are asked toΒ share with people.Β It is so much easier to text someoneΒ a shortΒ URLΒ rather than find and send the document or whatever.Β TheyΒ don’t even have to ask you,Β theyΒ just search for it on your site.
If you didn’t have aΒ website, you wouldΒ need toΒ send anΒ email,Β share aΒ DropBoxΒ folder orΒ Google Drive thing. Too messy.
Be Accessible
YourΒ website is thereΒ even if you are not.Β It is a one-stopΒ place for all the stuff you want to share.Β Unlike social media (Facebook)Β the stuffΒ stays there and isn’t lost in aΒ lengthy newsfeed.
YouΒ get to organize yourΒ content and present your stuff however you want.
For example, if youΒ have some great ideas how to help focus better, you justΒ make a post orΒ page about it andΒ thenΒ just tell yourΒ friendsΒ toΒ goΒ to your website forΒ that information.
Without aΒ website,Β peopleΒ just need to contact you and then you access your stuffΒ andΒ email orΒ share itΒ with them in some other way.Β ThisΒ takes yourΒ time and energy.
Be Found-able
This is aΒ coolΒ feature of being on the internet.Β PeopleΒ canΒ find you.Β YourΒ friendsΒ just need to search for your name or whatever.Β And your potentialΒ friends and clientsΒ searching forΒ content likeΒ yoursΒ can find you and connect.
AnΒ example of thisΒ isΒ if you are passionate aboutΒ helping people improve their sleep andΒ you have lots of helpful information,Β people willΒ find it when they search for it.
Without a website,Β peopleΒ can only find you by word ofΒ mouth.Β This is just the way the world works now.
So, What is a Website
This is just a place where you can place something that everyone can share, like a library.
Or simply think of a magic book that once you write something in it, it can be read by anyone anywhere.
It’s like a portal to the rest of the world.
How Do I Set One Up?
Sounds cool, but how do I get one?
The good news is that you donβt have to learn complex code to put a website together.Β Itβs actually rather simple.
You can set up your Website in 5min Β … Β for only $3.95 a month!
You will need 4 things:
- Hosting
- Domain
- Website program
- Post content
You can get all these in the same place.
A lot of people have asked were we host our website. Β We have tried many platforms. Β We like this one the best, Bluehost. Β Click hereΒ to set it up now. Β This page is a tutorial of how to set up an amazing website and save a ton of money.
Over the past few months, I have spoken with lots of people who Β told me they were paying over $30 for hosting their website. Β That’s lubricous! Β The service they were receiving was pretty poor and very limited. Β That’s 10 Times More than they need to pay! Β They can be saving over $320 a year ($26x12mo).
All though some of these at first glance look very visually pleasing and easy to customize, they are difficult to work with and limited as to what you can do with them or use with them.
Domain
Your domain (URL or universal resource locator) is your address for people to find you.Β It looks like www.example.com.
TIP: Unless you already have a trademark or business name that is recognized, I would suggest you just use your name, especially in network-marketing your name is your product.Β It is the simplest approach.Β People don’t have to learn you and your website name.
Here is a widget you can use to see if your website address is available:
Just choose one that will work for you.
Hosting
What is “hosting” in layman’s terms? Β
Hosting means you purchase some hard drive space somewhere and some computing power. Β Think of your website like having a computer somewhere that everyone can get on and look at pages, pictures, videos, or any other contend you create. Β This hard drive space and computing power is the server. Β It is costly for you to set one up yourself at home (think of the internet bandwidth, the security, the hardware, the updating, and the hassle of figuring out how to do it). Β It is so much cheaper to get someone to host it for you – which pretty much means you are buying hard drive space and computing power and all the benefits that come with them.
Where should I “host” my website?
You can host your site on a number of platforms, some of which are even free. Β I have had probably 6 websites over the years. Β I have tried a number of platforms: Bluehost (recommended), Standard FTP, blogger, Wix, Square Space, wordpress.com, Weebly, and Google Sites (old and new). Β Some of these are free and cost a lot more.
Don’t pay more than a few dollars a month.Β Having said that, if technology isn’t your thing, get someone else to do the work for you and pay them. Β Bluehost is so much better and so much more affordable. Β Here is what you would pay at some of these other hosting services, and in my opinion, Bluehost is much better.

How do I set it up?
Click on this link to get Bluehost’s deal.
That will take you to this page:
Then, simply click on “get started now”
Simply, put in the domain name you want to use in the “new domain” slot.
Then, fill out your account details.
Then put in your billing details. Β There are some optional choices you can add on like Domain Privacy Protection, Site Backup Pro, Search Engine Jumpstart, and SiteLock Security. Β To find out more about those, simply click on “More information” underneath them. Β However, they are not required for you to have a great website.
Bluehost is pretty great. Β They will give you warnings and offers as you set up your site. Β You can choose if you want to take advantage of these or dismiss them. Β You do not need to agree to any of these offers to set up a successful website.
Once you put in your billing details, and click on “submit”, you will beΒ able to choose your password. Β Today, we will be setting up two passwords:
- One for your Bluehost account, and
- One to log into your website admin panel (where you will write your pages and posts)
Once you create your account, and log in, click on the “hosting” tab and under the “website” section, click on “Install WordPress”.
NOTE: If you are lucky, you will be put on BlueHost’s new system with a much more clean streamlined approach and best of all, it has WordPress already installed, so you can skip these steps.
Then, click on “Get Started”.
Next, you simply select the domain you want to install it on. Β You can choose a to use your domain with or without the “www”. Β It’s just a style thing in my opinion.
Once that installation process is complete, you will need to pick out a login for your WordPress site. Β And there you have it. Β Installed. Β When you login, you can then choose a Theme.
I’ll create a page to show you how to get your FREE theme installed and start posting. Β Any questions, email me at support@benbalden.com.
Thanks.

When publishing on the internet, you must use images you own or are allowed to use. Β Using images that belong to someone else, van violate copyright protections and lead to heavy fines.
Using Google Images to search for images may lead to accidentally using images that belong to someone else. Β Here are some sites where you can get images that you can freely use, or buy.

Site Certification for doTERRA
For those of you my friends who are setting up a website to help promote doTERRA products, here is some information you need to know.
Get your site doTERRA Certified:
The benefits* of getting your website certified are as follows:
- Trademark Use – You are able to use doTERRA trademark in any way you would like on your site. This means you are able to include pictures of the oils, talk about our trademarked blends using their name rather than a generic name, and help people know which brand you love and trust the most.
- Replicated Website Link – You can share your mydoterra link on your website which helps build your team and give them a friend to learn and grow from.
- doTERRA Seal – The Certified seal on your site also gives you the ability to link to your Facebook and Instagram pages so that all of your online presence is linked and easy for your followers to find. (not sure how this works, but
- YouTube/Vimeo Permission – Having the seal also gives you permission to post videos to YouTube or Vimeo discussing the benefits of the oils, as long as itβs compliant, of course.
- Email List – And last but not least, being in the program puts you on the list to receive the Weekly Drops of Wisdom emails.Β This weekly email to help you be able to boost your content in a compliant way, giving you tips and sometimes content to share.
*I’d like to thank Collin Tuttle from doTERRA Compliance Team for providing us with this list.Β If you have any questions about compliance, please check out my post atΒ https://benbalden.com/compliance/, or email doTERRA atΒ claimseducation@doterra.com.
