My wife shared a video with me which is a recording of Dr. Daniel Goleman called, “Daniel Goleman on Focus: The Secret to High Performance and Fulfillment” (https://youtu.be/HTfYv3IEOqM).
Great video. There was one element of what he said that particularly stuck out to me: his explanation of flow. Flow is when you are so focused on your task that performance is at its highest. You not only get a lot done, but you are also so focused that you don’t let anything around you break your concentration.
Yesterday, I was working on a project that I was particularly happy and excited about. But I had set a goal to get it done by the end of the day. However, with a tight deadline, I froze, and was unable to actually get anything done. I decided to take a new approach the next day and just lean into the project without a tight deadline. Then watching this video and Dr Goleman’s explanation of flow, which is what I was trying to get into, I understood why I was in a state of frazzle. And mathematically, all I need to do is lower the stress level and the graph will bring frazzle to flow. And in this case, I just need to reduce or remove the stress trigger, the deadline.
Brilliant.
What do you think? Is this a good concept for helping you get into flow more often.
