Hey, everyone, here is my thought for today:
Live life with courage – remove the downside of fear
Courage is NOT fearlessness, it is acting when fear is present. It’s a skill you can learn. It is overcoming natural tendencies of survival.
Fear is a built-in, natural response that helps us live to perpetuate the species.
Fear’s purpose = to keep you safe
Fear’s problem = keeps you from reward while simultaneously keeping you from harm
Keeping you from reward is the downside of fear. But, don’t worry, God gave you a brain to help offset this downside. The trick is you just got to engage it. Exercise a little intelligence.
Intelligently applying courage to the right moments we can take advantage of opportunities that bring reward and enjoy the protection of fear in those moments we do need it.
Here are some examples:
Good times to use courage in the face of fear:
– Approaching your boss for a raise.
– Asking that girl out on a date.
– Finally starting that book you want to write.
– Approaching someone who has hurt you to sort the issue out.
Good times to let fear rule the day:
– Refrain from running across a busy and dangerous highway.
– Investing your money with an unknown person in Bamzgatia (wherever that is).
– Making the wise choice to not remove that pot roast from the oven without an oven mitt.
– Sharing too much information on social media.
