Do you have negative feelings you don’t know what to do with?
Don’t suppress the negative feelings. But don’t feed them either. Allow them in, BRIEFLY acknowledge them, and savor them like a bite of chocolate cake. Appreciate what those negative emotions are telling you.
Then after you have BRIEFLY communed with the emotion. Thank it for coming and let it travel on its way. RELEASE it completely. Negative feelings and emotions are important and play a rollin our lives, but they are like 3-minute friends. If you allow them to stay longer, they grow bigger and start to stain your house with dirt and stench. Don’t try to resist them either. Resisting them will draw your focus to them and their presence in your life will grow.
Let them come and just as easily let them go, but do so graciously with a desire to spend MORE time with your positive emotions and feelings.
How?
Part of RELEASING the negative feelings and emotions is turning your attention to the positive. There are always two sides to every issue. Look at the bright side. List anything about the event or issue that you can be grateful for no matter how small. Focus on the good.
Distract yourself by focusing on those things that you want to grow in presence in your life.
It’s simple. But not necessarily easy.
This practice, like anything worthwhile, will take (1) time, (2) effort, and (3) energy. But, it is worth it.
So, in sum. Do NOT RESIST negative emotions. They are there to tell you something. Listen. Be grateful for them. Let them go. And replace them quickly.
How long?
By design, we all need both good and bad. Without passing through sorrow, we can not truly know happiness. The depth of your sorrow sometimes dictates the height of your joy. The TRICK is that we do not need to be sad for 3 days to enjoy 3 days of happiness. We can just be sad for a moment, a minute or so, so we know and appreciate the feeling. Then we can be happy to that degree for eternity.
Recurring negative feelings?
If those same negative feelings keep returning, then they are trying to tell you something. Something is wrong or out of sync. You may have to spend some time and delve into them. Getting some help is a good idea if you can’t get to it yourself.
The good news is that it may just be an incorrect way of seeing things. When our internal compass or blueprint of how the world should be does not match what we experience, our emotions will try to tell us. You can either change your belief about how things should be or change your circumstances through action.
Find and deal with the issue the negative emotions is bringing to your attention and watch that negative feeling never return again.
