We all need to have something we are working toward. We can be motivated by either intrinsic or extrinsic benefits. Intrinsic benefits are those natural benefits we receive when we do something that naturally leads to that result. An example of an intrinsic benefit would be getting big muscles from working out. Extrinsic benefits are those made-up rewards we make for ourselves to motivate us toward a certain goal. An example of an extrinsic benefit would be Both these are good to use to help give you purpose and keep you moving toward your goals.
Intrinsic benefits are, perhaps, the best. If your end goal or result is clear and gives you purpose, your intrinsic benefit would be the best kind of motivation because it also acts as a informative guide. When your goal is far off or when it is difficult to imagine or visualize your goal, adding a little extrinsic motivation can really help get you over the edge.
