Things happen. Some good. Some bad. You, no doubt, had a part in what happens to you, but that’s not important. What’s important is what you do next.
“It doesn’t matter what happens to you in life. It matters how you respond.” – Ben Balden
You have the right and the gift to choose. Between the time that the thing happens and the time that you respond, you have a choice. Will you leave that choice up to chance, to pre-conditioning, or will you take your future in your hands and make a choice that will support your future happiness and success.
Some people whine and complain that they were not blessed with a good upbringing or opportunities or talents. Phish. We all have good and bad come to us.
“We forget: In life, it doesn’t matter what happens to you or where you came from. It matters what you do with what happens and what you’ve been given.”― Ryan Holiday
“It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.” – Epictetus
Right now, I’m stranded 4 hours away from home as a hurricane threatens my home and neighborhood. At first I was very worried about how disruptful this might be to my goals and what havoc it might wreak on my life. But the truth is that those possessions are just “things”. I had evacuated with my family. We are safe and happy. This choice of how to look at the good and move forward makes a huge difference in my energy, attitude, and happiness. It also sets me up to make the most out of the situation.
