“The world is full of people who are grabbing and self-seeking. So the rare individual who unselfishly tries to serve others has an enormous advantage.”– Dale Carnegie. “How To Win Friends & Influence People.” (Chapter 3) (http://amzn.to/2yqKNAk)
I was just discussing this last night with a friend. Sometimes when people get caught up in getting their own needs filled they forget their higher purpose, to serve humanity in their unique way.
Perhaps you may feel this is a privileged of those of us whose needs are filled can cater to. But the truth is we all have much to be grateful for, and we can all serve in our own capacity.
“What-E’er Thou Art, Act Well Thy Part.” – Scottish Inscription1
Regardless of what we find ourselves doing or what job we are in, people will sense our love and desire to meet their needs, we will become more valuable to society at large, and we will not only have more influence, but we will begin to find that we are more successful in general.
Whatever we are going to do with our lives, one universal truth remains: people matter. Your life’s purpose must be bigger than you in order to have true meaning. No matter how much success you experience in life, it is wasted and meaningless without anyone to share it with. If your WHY (your purpose) is only about you, you won’t have enough will power to continue the course when the winds and storms come. We all make a living by serving someone and selling something (our time, our value, our labor)–why not do it with a flare.
This concept also reminds me of a scripture:
“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it”2
