What’s holding you back?
Do you feel some invisible force that’s keeping you from doing what you really want to do in life?
Your subconscious mind tries to protect your from pain and help you fill your needs. It will create feelings and moods to “drive your ship” away or toward things.
You have all the knowledge, skill, willpower, and ability. But you still don’t or haven’t done what you need or want. Why? Because your automatic pilot is driving your life in a different direction than you are.
Here is what an org chart would look like if all these needs and fears were working hard in their offices to try to drive you in a direction you may not want to go.
Here are some fears:
-Not being loved
-Not being enough
-The pain of being abandoned
-The pain of causing that pain in others
-Being rejected
-Being hated, mistrusted, or misunderstood
Here are some needs:
-The desire for security or certainty
-The need for variety and change
-Love and connection
-Feeling importance
-Growth and progression
-Being a part of a higher cause or contribution
Unconsciously, we even violate our beliefs and values to meet our needs or escape the pain of our fears (real or imagined).
How do you know which of these is holding you back? You pay attention to your emotions and what triggers them. You are driven by your emotions. If you get angry, depressed, or annoyed every time you pay your bills, perhaps you have an unmet need for security.
The good news is that there are supportive ways of meeting these needs and addressing the fears.
