Practicing gratitude daily can do so many things for you.
It helps you remember those things that you appreciate in your life, which activates those centers in our brains to find more of what we are thinking of. We experience more things to appreciate, and we have more to be grateful for.
We also feel happiness (our body actually releases happiness chemicals). The more we focus on those things we are glad to have, the more gladness we have.
What you are not thinking of when you practice gratitude is also important. The more you focus on things that are going right for you, the less time and energy you are devoting to destructive and unsupportive thoughts about what is not going right.
The saying, where your focus goes, your energy flows actually has some scientific support behind it. As you ponder on and record what you are grateful for…
- RAS – The RAS in your brain is programmed to find more good things in life
- HAPPY CHEMICALS – Endorphins and other chemicals are released into the blood to bring a feeling of happiness
- MOOD – Feeling happy puts you in the mood to take risks and do the tasks you need to do to progress to you goals
So, do a little of practicing gratitude today:
- GOOD – Think of 3 things you are happy for
- BETTER – Write a few paragraphs in your gratitude journal (or anywhere) about what you are grateful for today
- BEST – Tell someone why you are so happy with your “amazing” life and share all the things you have to be grateful for.
