“…everything can be taken from man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms––to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” – Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search For Meaning
You have no idea how powerful and, at the same time how invincible you are.
Your power = to create who you are
Your invincibility = only you can determine who you are
I’m still studying the work of Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search For Meaning (https://amzn.to/3hRXXLk). And I want to continue to share with you some insight.
No one can make you become something you do not want to be. No matter what they take from you or under what circumstances you suffer. You can bear it all with dignity and purpose.
Just think of the most vile circumstances on might be forces to live through. Imagine taking everything from a man, forcing him into humility and drudgery. What you’re imagining, some people have endured. One of the most well known circumstances were those of the Nazi Concentration camps. We are fortunate to have the words of Viktor Frankl, his observations of the choices of others when they were suppressed in the most inhumane manner possible. He observed there were a few individuals, through their power of choice, rose above the situation.
There’s a lesson for us here: we are, or can be, completely free to choose who we are simply by choosing how we react to what happens to us in life. No one can take that power from us. But millions give it away every day.
