Negativity. Toxic thoughts. Depressed thinking. How can you stop it or reverse it? That is the subject of this inspirational quote.
“All truly toxic thoughts are expelled while moving. Gotta move to stay alive.” — Toni Sorenson
Get moving. Stay alive. Activity breeds activity. When you are overcome by toxic thoughts, get out and get doing something. When you are doing things, more of those things come to pass. If you don’t know how to get moving in the right direction or don’t know what you need to do first, then just pick something and move in that direction. Lean into it. Start somewhere even if it’s a mistake. Where your focus goes, your energy flows. What you focus on tends to grow or expand.
Moreover when you lose yourself in service, you can find yourself. (“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.” (Mark 8:35.)). You can find great meaning and can understand yourself when you turn your heart outward and work to better the life of others.
We all have a need for growth and progression. Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs starts with the need to survive, connect to others, and finally at the top is a need for growth and contribution. We have a need to become something better and improve our lives.
So, the next time you suffer from toxic thoughts, expel those by getting yourself busy. Get moving, especially in service to others. Stay alive by pushing forward with purpose – any purpose.
