When we expect more from us or from others around us, and… don’t get it, we feel frustrated, disappointed, and angry. Give us all a break. Give yourself a little slack. Set your expectations of others high, but allow for a little bit of humanity. Excuse, forgive, forget.
We are all broken in one way or another. We all make mistakes. We all have weaknesses. We all have problems. We all have something that we need to improve. We all have a trait or two that even we don’t like about ourselves. But WE is all we have. We are human.
When you expect, embrace, and love the imperfect human foibles in all of use, including yourself, life becomes not only more bearable, but also pleasant, full of love, and you will find that you are able to achieve much more than you have ever been able to do before.
So, here are some steps to achieve happiness with by internalizing this principle:
1) STOP – Stop the criticisms, the blaming, the controlling
2) FORGIVE – Forgive yourself and others for not being perfect or for expecting perfection
3) ACCEPT – Embrace our humanity by accepting that others and yourself are NOT perfect
4) LOVE – Look for those human, and less-than-perfect qualities in others, and find something about them to love
