Who you are and who you become always trump what you have and have done.
I watched a documentary the other week about Bill Gates. And, I’ve got to say, I loved it. I get inspiration from several sources, and this was an unexpected one. There was a quote in the documentary that from his mother. It simply said,
“Ultimately it’s not what you get or even what you give, but who you become.” – Mary Gates*
This is so profound. So many people are really focused on increasing their income, getting those next shiny things, owning things, being more popular, and other things you “get”. But that’s not really the goal, is it? Happiness is.
True, lasting happiness comes from inside. Countless people “achieve” something seemingly important and still feel empty and … sad. “Success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure.” (Tony Robbins)
What you take with you to any new situation is you. If you love you and who you have become, you will be happy with you regardless of what you have, own, and how others feel about you.
What can we take away from this? Focus your goals on becoming. Do you want to own a million dollars or be a millionaire, who can generate a million dollars naturally? Think about it.
Life is giving you that option that most genies deny you, you get to wish for more wishes. Becoming someone amazing means you can create amazing things (things you get, how you impress people, and most importantly, how you live).
