I love reading personal development books. I am always working on my own personal growth, and I receive inspiration and learning from the works of inspired people and from scriptures. This week, I learned something profound from these sources.
In her book Braving the Wilderness by Brené Brown, she talks about needing to give her daughter a permission slip for a school event. She was pondering on her own personal challenges and decided she needed permission to take a needed action.
She wrote herself a permission slip.
Permission to be excited and goofy and to have fun
In his book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker, also spoke about the permission people need. He was speaking about allowing people to feel “worthy”. He has attendees at his training dress up in their best, attend a ceremony where he “declares” them “worthy”. It has the same effect. People then feel they have permission to receive the wealth of the universe.
So, think of what you need to give yourself permission for.
Are you holding yourself back?
Here are a few examples:
- Permission to be happy
- Permission to relax
- Permission to love
- Permission to let go… to forgive
- Permission to grow up
And with that, let me share with you my permission slip. There are sometimes that you emotionally stay at a developmental age in a specific area of your life due to unresolved trauma. I experienced this recently when releasing issues and trauma from when I was growing up. It was nothing major, but it just needed to dealt with and let go of. Maturing is the process of growing up. I simply wrote my self a note to give myself permission to get on with life, leave it behind, and grow up.
